Fraser Range

home

An exciting project curently in development by the Mining Families Foundation is the Fraser Range Model Railways program. The model trains cabinet utilises selected jarrah timbers attached to a non-distorting aluminium frame. There is a inset piece of Verdie Austral green granite in the top of the cabinet. There are multiple panels that glide out and then upwards to form the mountain scene of mining activities.

And the model trains will be hand crafted, individually numbered and bolted together for maximum hands-on pleasure. Running on standard OO gauge track, the scale will be 36:1 for "Dinky-like" proportions. (Normal model trains on this size track are smaller with a scale of 87:1).

The model trains are loaded up with lots of animatronics, voice recognition, lighting options, remote train controls and other special fun features. Detail will be released when the first models are exported to the United Kingdom.

There is also a very much different and slightly smaller 'Japanese Model' with a range of different scenery treatments, interactive features and other details.

The program was conceived and planned for location near Yarloop
in the South West of Western Australia. Nearby regional centres like Pinjarra, Harvey and even the tourist region of Mandurah may be involved in the project.

E-manufacturing will also be part of the project, encouraging
'work-at-home' opportunities.
