| Maslow's rules for motivation | ||||
| Back | ||||
| This is one of the classic motivation theories. Maslow's Heirachy of Needs was enhanced by his student Kurt Goldstein. It has many 'variations'. The following is a mix of some of the better ideas. It builds on the basics to a level to make the most of your abilities. |
||||
| Step 1: The basics |
You can achieve the first level in motivation by receiving the basics: eats, drinks, sleep & sex plus avoiding the problems of sickness, pain & discomfort. |
|||
Step 2: Safety stuff |
The second level of motivation relates to personal safety and job security. Satisfactory industrial relations, collective bargaining, and employment is the next level in motivating you. |
|||
Step 3: Sense of belonging |
As a worker, you & your family want to be wanted. Making this possible is very useful in workforce support. Matters include encouraging social structures, friendship and family love. |
|||
Step 4: Esteem |
There is a need for people to learn to accept themselves. To motivate someone, there are 2 things to be done, (A) develop a person's self respect for themselves, and (B) get them recognised by others, (some call it fame!) |
|||
Step 5: Self awareness |
If you can make the most of your abilities, by learning, exploring, striving and creating so you feel aware of your surroundings and enjoy the freedom it brings, then this is highly motivating. |
