Our kids are missing

emergency   'Our Kids ... are MISSING!'

Back
The way to reduce the chance of the above is to stay in touch

The simple stuff
Be aware where your family is
Keep an up-to-date list of phone numbers, email detail & addresses
Tell people where you expect to be, and by what times
(Travelling, boating, living alone, working at remote locations etc)
Put the list on a notice board & include 'who knows what'.
Work out BEFORE what are 'acceptable margins' before acting
Work out BEFORE who will take control,
and what the 'increasing actions' will be
.

Why?
Because we care for people special in our lives
Do you want to be found dead some time later because no one cared?
Because you want to minimalise any pain
Duty of care responsibilities
It's the right thing to do .....

Where/when to start?
The obvious first step is the Police , call 000.

There is Australia's coordinated Missing Persons service.
Some 30,000 people disappear each year in Australia.
You do NOT have to wait 24 hours to report a missing person.

Red Cross and the Salvation Army can assist is some situations.

Register BEFORE travelling

Smarttraveller.gov.au
This is a Federal Govt initiative with travel information
and it offers a registration service:

Travel Advisories
Travel Bulletins

Registration for Australians - overseas  This is where you start
Getting help overseas
Australian embassies - overseas

This is different ... Travelsmart.gov.au

This is an 'all government' program
with better ways to move about as commuters.
It is not a 'lost kids' program but it does have some good pointers.

Use own blogs
to stay in touch.
(Include pics)
        Example:
      Sydney Morning Herald Blogs

(a commercial blog site with stuff to stay aware)

Other useful stuff ....

Home

Make a will
Include executor's name
and outline your wishes.
Date your will
and revoke previous wills.
Give copies to multiple people.

Assemble a list of immediate 'useful stuff'
(It may help if you are injured and cannot speak / remember etc)
Include bank account details
Any funeral funds
Superannuation details

Mobile phones & SMS links
While they are great ways of staying linked together,
they can become 'addictive' and overused. Multiple
'staying in contact' messages per hour is a good sign
that maybe there are better things to do with your time.
