How can
we help?
Spend time with
and give love to your grandchildren.

Keep the family history
and family networks alive.

Support old family traditions
and create new ones with the growing extended family.

Provide security and protection if there are family problems
and build the self esteem of your grandchildren.

Get prepared
to participate
Make your home child proof (again)
Organise a box of interesting toys
Refresh your book selection
Check out the (changing) interests of your grandchildren
Set your own home rules and tell them
Learn to listen again
Get involved and go and see their (school) activities
Understand the demands of different age goups
Do things that their parents have little time for ... like cooking!
Learn new skills like PC's so you can exchange emails.

Where
are we now!
Grandparents can make a  difference to their grandchildren's lives.
Grandparent-grandchild bonds are one of the strongest!
Grandparents have a wealth of experience, to offer grandchildren.

It is through a grandparent-grandchild relationship,
that the grandchild is given a rich link with the past,
and the grandparent a vital extension into the future.

Close by ... If grandparents live nearby, they may be asked to
visit at a convenient time, baby sit a child,
or the child may be asked to come and stay a night or two;
these times will be very special
for both the child and the grandparents
and leave good positive memories!

Far away ...
When families live far away,
it's a bit harder to be able to see each other regularly;
but both families can e-mail, or phone on a regular basis
and the children can tell their grandparents
what's been happening in their life, and just chat with them.
Grandparents also like getting 'fridge door' drawings

Videos or DVDs can hold invaluable and important events,
birthday parties, etc.

Grandparents can give grandchildren a gift of love & acceptance.
Unconditional  love is perhaps the most valuable gift.
They may not like their actions, but should always love the child.

When grandparents have time with the children, and give positive recognition, it develops the child's self-worth, this helps the child to feel worthwhile and confident.

Grandparents are admired by their grandchildren,
because of this the grandparents can influence the children
in all aspects of life.  Many older people have a "special wisdom",
that only can come with age and experience.
These experiences can help them be great teachers.
By sharing their past, they can give ideas of ways to deal
with life's fears and difficulties, and also help to understand
that life is about changes and how we can make that a "positive".

Warm moments with grandparents become special memories
that help provide strength during difficult times.

Grandparents are often relaxed, calm and confident, because of years of maturing experiences.  They don't let life's ups and downs disturb them as much as younger people.

Grandparents can make a positive difference in the quality
of their grandchild's life, they also can heal and enrich their grandchild's lives by sharing part of themselves,
even in day to day experiences.

GRANDPARENTS AND GRANDCHILDREN
ARE BOTH VERY SPECIAL GIFTS,
WE NEED TO ENJOY THEM!
