Children   Friends with Benefits.....
  Back

Having friends with benefits (FWB),
means a commitment-free relationship,
but you cross the lines of platonic friends
to "sexual buddies".

If the lines of communication are not open
to this "friends with benefits relationship",
it can cause the end of what was
a good friendship!

Pros
Cons
Good Sex
Every time you see him/her
you get more emotionally involved
No Emotions involved
Potential for "heartbreak"
if emotions follow
Works for both partners Awkwardness in public,
not sure how to act
Comfort in familiarity Absence of "real emotional relationship",
the type you envision having with "the one".
A degree of Care as "friends"
No Jealously

How to be
Friends
with Benefits
Communicate and be clear about what you want in a relationship.
Honesty is the best policy!

Choose your friend or partner wisely.
Each one knows that there will be no romantic commitment.

Your chosen partner will be someone that you get along with,
and want the same thing out of the relationship.

You can date more than one person,
(a FWB relationship means that you are not tied down to one person)

Get to know people with similar interests.
A FWB doesn't have to be someone you already know!

Set the rules.
FWB needs a clear set of boundaries.
Make sure you are both happy with the choices.

Stick to the rules
Maybe stay the night once or twice.
Remember, YOUR rules should only be broken
if you decide to change the nature of your relationship.

Practice "safe sex" ALWAYS, eg. Use Condoms.
Having sex with multiple partners is a personal choice,
but it's dangerous if you don't take proper precautions.

Respect everyone you become involved with.
If your partner wants to be in a steady relationship and you don't,
(you can't change peoples minds), show them respect and let them go.

If you find someone after entering the relationship
who maybe "the one",
then it's time to change the FWB relationship
to a committed one
or remove yourself from the situation.

Final thoughts

Get out before it gets too heavy.
FWB relationships have a short shelf life.

If your relationship starts to change, end it,
unless you are both happy with the changes you need to make!

Of course in any kind of relationship,
the biggest thing is always, communication, and talking.

For every relationship we need to talk, to work things out,
to decide things and always important for both partners to agree!

If we will remember to communicate and talk,
any relationship will be able to survive!
