Homework & study disciplines

Children   Homework & Study Disciplines
  Back

Why is homework important Homework ....
is as important as the work done in class.
So, both are needed for a good education.
Hence, all involved*, should give it their full attention!

* Students, parents & teachers

Pointers

1. Avoid Distractions

TV, DVD's, Music
Online, Games & Phones

Distractions should be kept to a minimum,
or better still, turned off while doing homework.

2. Create a Study Space

Use the one hour
switch off if you
have to 'time shift'.
Find a space
or if possible a room without the usual distrations.
(TV, DVD's, Music, Online, Games & Phones)

If a quiet and separate space is harder to create ...
agree to switch OFF the distractions for an hour.

As part of the agreement,
relax the rules for the next hour, then ....
yep, more discipline and another 'all switch off' hour.
It's a simple deal.

3. Practice
Discipline gets homework done more effectively.
Practice helps achieve that goal .. faster!

4. Helpful guidelines
Get on with homework as soon as possible.
Avoid last minute stress and panic ... by everyone involved!

Check regularly that all things are available
for homework, in the set aside space & time slots.
(Usual stuff includes good lighting, reasonable table space and seating,
warm in winter, cool in summer, pens, paper, calculator, dictionary etc.)

Homework helps to establish:

(A) habits of study,
(B) concentration, and
(C) self discipline.

It also helps develop:

(D) skills in research, and
(E) time management.

Parents have the opportunity to see their children's progress
and positively reinforce the good outcomes.
