The little worries
for Mum's & Dad's

Where has my "peacefull toddler" gone?
Why is there all this screaming?
I can do it myself!
My child won't eat!
Will we ever get through this stage?

OK, some home truths!
Toddlerhood, lasts about two years,
and then there is more co-operation after this stage!

Children need this stage of development,
so their independence can grow, and they develop into people
who know what they want
; and can think for themselves.

Know that this stage won't last forever;
try and keep your sense of humor when dealing with the toddler.

It can be a joy to watch your toddler grow and develop,
trying new skills and using their new found independence!

Remind yourself that toddlers won't learn all the "right" skills
for a long time, but rest assured that it will happen.

Some days your toddler will want to use their independence,
and do things their own way, choose their own clothes,
get dressed by themself and not want your help!

This time can be very demanding on you,
but there is always the other side;
it's great to see them growing and learning,
doing things for themself.

Too often we think we are doing something wrong
when our toddler or young child won't eat their food.
Relax and don't worry; a child will never starve themself!
(Try offering small portions, frequently,
in strips, triangles, bite sized, etc.)

Get them to sit in a highchair, or at the table;
a good rule, as they will learn that's where you eat;
not running around as they could choke!
Have a special plate for them, plastic or unbreakable,
so if lands on the floor won't break.

Try not to give juice or milk before a meal, offer water,
so they don't fill up on drink.

Children can get involved in basic food preparation,
talking with them and showing how to make a cake,
sandwiches, salad etc, this teaches them about healthy foods.

Terrible Twos It is USA-based so some of the info will not help,
but the site has some good tips.

Other useful stuff ....

Home It's great to encourage them when they do something good,
or even just playing.

It's important not to expect too much from them;
as everyone learns at different times and levels.

In these years their mind is like a sponge; they ask heaps of questions,
and soak up lots of imformation.

They are generally very busy little people!

Enjoy everyday with them; everyday is a good day;
and they grow up very quickly!

make a set of pics for the scrap book at home
and prints to take to work!
