Things to help heal
a relationship:
Confront the problem:
Having acknowledged a problem exists, point it out
and
ask
the person to choose a time and place where they will feel comfortable
to talk about it.
Understand each others view:
Take time to hear each other through,
without
interruption.
Be honest about any mispreconceptions you've had.
Define the problem:
Start by acknowledging what you agree about.
Then
try looking at specific actions -
by both of you that keep the problem alive.
Search for solutions:
Come up with as many as possible. Then together
look
at each one, and talk through the rational consequences.
Agree on a solution:
You both need to feel the problem has been resolved
for you.
Implement the solution:
Keep to the agreement, and if one fails to do so,
point it out in a calm way.
Review the agreement:
If things aren't working, repeat the steps.
The secret really is: To keep talking!
