Self abuse

Abuses   Self abuse - deliberate self injury (DSI)
  Back

Why? People injure themselves to get relief from
distress, anxiety, disappointment, despair, suicide feelings,
not feeling alive, relationship issues, feeling angry or intense pain.
Every situation is unique.

(For some, a tattoo can be a form of mild DSI )

Helpful steps Have a couple of friends that you can call
to distract you when you have such thoughts.

Make a list of at least 10 things you can do
instead of hurting yourself.

Have a sanctuary or safe place to go to
where you cannot hurt yourself.
(This may be in your home, at the beach or a garden).

Recognise that it is OK to have worries which might mean
sometimes feeling scared, frustrated or uncomfortable.

Make the decision to want to stop hurting yourself.
