Are there limits?

No personal attacks, vs allowed to be dicks
as long as they are funny.

Being funny and not just stupid is what life is about.
Ideally, treading on another's toes in a funny manner
allows all of us to laugh, including the one who's being treaded on.
There are many people who do not understand this.
This is a measure of what is, and what is not, bad taste.

Another test of 'bad taste' depends on
how emotionally charged are some issues
when packaged to be a joke.

Satire is supposed to provoke change.
It can challenge rules & policies by making fun of them.
For some, this can be classed as 'bad taste jokes'.

Humor is so subjective.
Bad taste and off colour jokes at one time
can become classics at a future time.

Example:  
Loss of Space Shuttle Challenger during take-off, Jan 1986
started the 'bad taste joke' .... what does NASA mean?
Need Another Seven Astronauts.
The loss of Space Shuttle Columbia on re-entry, Feb 2003
caused a rebirth of the same joke!
